Loading efficiency measures

Previous R&D on load - and loading efficiency has yielded various designs, technologies and devices for improved load – and loading  efficiency. In TRANSFORMERS, the focus is to assess the various options and to select the optimal combination in terms of load - and loading efficiency, fuel saving potential, and cost.




Options that will be considered are:

  • Extending the semitrailer floor capacity, within the current legal framework to facilitate safe loading of at least one additional euro-size pallet;
  • Creating a second movable floor inside the trailer that is robust, safe, efficient in loading/unloading and ergonomically-sound. TRANSFORMERS shall investigate the potential of various loading efficiency options for long distance transport of euro-sized pallets and bulk cargo within current legal framework. The result will be a toolbox of intelligent, optimized loading efficiency devices for truck and (semi)trailers and a guideline for selecting the optimal option(s). Potential load efficiency increase potential (= project target) for truck-trailer combinations with optimal aerodynamics are up to 40%. Read the first results available>
